A complete history, accompanied by remarks pointing out the defects that have led to the disuse of many inventions connected with boiler work, would be of real service to many, for, judging by the frequency of the repetition of Old defects, it would appear to be even more important to know what to avoid than what to adopt in designing new boilers.
