A Translation of the New Testament from the Original Greek by Thomas Haweis is a significant early English translation of the New Testament, undertaken by the prominent 18th-century clergyman and missionary. Haweis, an influential figure in the evangelical movement and a chaplain to the Countess of Huntingdon, aimed to provide a clear and accessible translation of the Scriptures, grounded in the original Greek text, for a broad audience of English readers.Haweis sought to balance scholarly accuracy with readability, ensuring that his translation would be both faithful to the original language and easily understood by laypeople. In his preface, he emphasized the importance of conveying the meaning of the Greek text as accurately as possible, while also making the message of the New Testament accessible for spiritual reflection and practical application.
