Some secrets are buried in salt. Some are buried in skin.
Eighteen-year-old Vael Ashmore has spent her life in Cauldra, a dying coastal city ruled by the Tide Court's Accord where the sea's oldest practices are outlawed, memory is classified as Disorder, and entire communities can vanish behind the clean language of "resettlement."
Vael has a secret the Court tried to erase from the coast: the harbor remembers. And worse, sometimes it answers.
When a First Enforcer named Cassian Veyr arrives from the capital to investigate an "anomalous tide event," Vael expects arrest. Instead, she finds something far more dangerous: Cassian can hear the water too. He has been trained to extract what the sea knows and weaponize it for the Court. Vael's gift is different. She can Call to the water and be answered, not as a resource, but as a relationship.
The Court believes the coast is slipping toward a Second Dissolution: forbidden readers waking in harbor cities along an invisible arc, the tides carrying messages no law can contain. If Vael is connected to it, Cauldra will be flagged. Her family will be relocated. Her city will be stripped clean.
But Cassian came alone, and he has his own reasons for doubting the Court.
As Vael and Cassian dig through a hidden archive of pre-Accord texts, they uncover the truth behind the saltbinding that smothered Cauldra's harbor and the names buried with it, proof that the Tide Court outlawed Calling not because it was dangerous, but because it could not be controlled.
To protect the coast, they will have to do the one thing the Court fears most: put the sea's memory back into the record, everywhere, all at once, before the tide turns and enforcement arrives.
A Throne of Salt and Secrets is a lyrical, politically charged fantasy with forbidden magic, buried history, and a slow burn bond between two people standing on opposite sides of an empire that taught them both to be smaller than the truth.
