A supernatural thriller that weaves together art forgery and time manipulation, featuring Emma Chen, who investigates the suspicious Walsh Gallery in Chicago. When Emma takes a job as a curator at the same prestigious gallery, she soon learns the dark secret behind its creation: the gallery owners are using a temporal preservation process to steal and hoard moments from artists' lives. Working with her father, a notorious art forger, Emma needs to unearth the truth behind artists who go missing, one of them her predecessor, Sarah Miller. The narrative explores the themes of time, memory, and authenticity as Emma comes face to face with the gallery's proprietors and their dark collection of preserved moments. With turns of temporal physics, family secrets and the nature of preservation itself, Emma discovers that some moments can't be caught; they can only be lived. The book grapples with the friction between art as preservation and art as expression, knitting together strands of science fiction, family drama and noir mystery into a novel that's like nothing else, and as much a meditation on how we exist and place value in the world around us through time.
