Some believe monsters have claws and fangs, while others practice cruel precision. As a Captain of the queens guard, Decklyn has become familiar with the latter, remaining the picture of authority until his rigid belief system crumbles when confronted with the dark secrets of his tyrannical queen. His pride taking a near-fatal blow, he flees his post, his closest men behind him. Loralie well knows that the worst of them hides in plain sight, cloaked by clouded eyes and a walking stick. Though people often snicker at the sight of a blind bard, she well knows if they caught sight of the monster lurking within, their expressions would instead pale in horror. Practicing dark Magic in the continent of Pangenon, an act outlawed by death, certainly has its perks. When their paths cross with Loralie, a tragedy befalls the group. Decklyn gives chase with hopes of mitigating the damage, until he is stopped short by the intervention of a rebel mage who offers him a bargain. But when the bargain goes awry, the pair end up entangled in a bond that has dire consequences not only for themselves but for the entire kingdom.
