A Second Chance for Romance Captain Frederick Wentworth is home on leave, two years after his failed engagement. The last place he wants to return to is Somerset, but fortunately his curate brother is now happily settled in Shropshire - a place that holds no bad memories and no chance of running into Anne Elliot. When Charles Musgrove's aunt is taken ill his mother is determined to go and nurse her sister and asks him to accompany her, along with their neighbour and friend Anne - an idea Charles approves of, as it might finally give him the chance to propose properly. At least, until they meet another new arrival in Shropshire who is already acquainted with Anne Elliot of Somerset. A Surprise in Shropshire is a sweet regency retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion .
