This collection of letters, written by a British soldier during the First World War, provides a vivid and moving account of life on the front lines. George Weston Devenish was a subaltern (a junior officer) who served in France and Belgium from 1914 to 1917. His letters home offer a firsthand perspective on the horrors of trench warfare, as well as the camaraderie and bravery of the soldiers who fought in it. A Subaltern's Share in the War is a powerful testament to the sacrifices made by those who fought and died in the Great War.
