The candid memoir A Son of a Gun: An Immigrant's Story recounts one man's never-ending struggles, intermittent successes, and survival in the corporate jungle. Author Sigmund P. Roseth focuses on all aspects of his life-both the ups and downs-as he shares his story. Roseth grew up in the backwoods of western Norway. At age fifteen, he served as a training cadet on a four-masted schooner. A year later, he began an eighteen-month stint as an ordinary seaman on a Norwegian tanker in the Middle and Far East. Roseth immigrated to Canada in 1960, going back to school as an adult and progressing to various management positions in several firms over fifteen years. In 1985, he became an entrepreneur, operating A. and S. Roseth, Inc., a moving and storage company that he sold before retiring in 2001. Even though he was hampered by the language barrier, exhausted by the concurrent demands of work, studies, and family, and stymied by a lack of emotional and economic support, Roseth learned from his struggles-both successes and failures-and became a better person for it. From sea to prairie and from labour to industrial management to entrepreneurship, Roseth hopes that you find a few nuggets of insight, share a few laughs, and enjoy the ironies of his life. | A Son Of A Gun by P Sigmund Roseth, Paperback | Indigo Chapters
