When a United States Army jeep stops at Hannah Miller's roadside stand in the heart of Ohio's Amish country, neither she nor Lieutenant James Bennett expects what happens next.
Hannah is eighteen, beautiful, and quietly restless, standing at the crossroads of her Rumspringa , the Amish rite of passage that will require her to choose between the only world she has ever known and the one she has only glimpsed from a distance. James is a soldier from a family of soldiers, disciplined and dutiful, following a path laid out before him since birth.
One conversation changes everything.
What follows is a love story built across impossible distances, between two worlds that share almost nothing except the people trying to bridge them. As Hannah and James grow closer, her tight-knit Amish community grows suspicious, her family grows worried, and the whispers grow louder. When a long-buried family secret surfaces and threatens to upend everything Hannah believes about herself and her place in the world, she must decide how much she is willing to fight for, and what she is willing to become.
For James, the question is simpler and harder at the same time.
Is love enough reason to leave everything behind? For both of them?
A Soldier's Promise is a story about faith and doubt, tradition and courage, and the transformative power of choosing a life rather than simply inheriting one.
Some promises change everything.
