Some promises change. Some never do.
In the seven months since the accident, eleven-year-old Joshua and eight-year-old Peter have built a life with the Wilson family.
Peter is thriving. He has friends, school is easier, and for the first time since the accident, he doesn't need Joshua by his side every moment of the day.
Joshua should be relieved.
Instead, he's lost.
For as long as he can remember, Joshua's purpose has been simple: protect Peter. But as his younger brother grows more independent, Joshua finds himself facing a question he doesn't know how to answer—who is he if he isn't needed?
While Peter embraces the life taking shape around them, Joshua struggles to accept the love, care, and stability the Wilsons offer. Letting people help him has always been difficult. Letting them become family may be harder still.
As the bond between the boys and the Wilson family deepens, Joshua must decide whether he can risk opening his heart to a new family—and whether he is ready to let them love him back.
A Place to Be is the moving conclusion to the Joshua and Peter's Journey series, a heartfelt story about family, trust, healing, and discovering that home is sometimes found in the people who choose to stay.
Perfect for readers of middle-grade realistic fiction, family-centered stories, and emotionally rich novels about sibling bonds, grief, resilience, foster care, and adoption.
