Mom can't make snowmen with Penelope because she's not feeling well - Mom needs a kidney transplant. At first, Penelope has no idea what that means. What is a kidney and why do we need them? What does it look like? What might happen to Mom? Is there anything she can do to help? With her dad's help, Penelope learns about this important organ and finds a way to help her mom prepare for her operation. A New Kidney for Mom looks at kidney transplants from a child's perspective, helping young readers understand the key concepts in a warm and comforting way. Drawing on her own personal experience, Cornita Cole weaves a delightful tale of family compassion that will educate and reassure children about kidney transplant operations and the life-saving kidney pairing exchange program.
