Janet Atwood was born in the West-Midlands of England and immigrated to Canada as a young woman in 1960 to work as an X-ray technician. While working in a cottage hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, she fell in love with a young engineer with whom she discovered a deep love for Christ, and her new Faith led to a lifetime of Christian ministry. In an era when women were discouraged from leadership roles, Janet became a spiritual leader in the Canadian Baptist denomination and inter-faith communities. She visited an active war zone in Nicaragua to witness for peace, presented a Christian perspective to Canada's Royal Commission on Reproductive Technologies, advocated for Canadian pastors to address family violence, and carried her Faith around the world.
