Excerpt from A Latin-English Dictionary: For the Use of Junior Students; Abridged From the Larger Work of White and Riddle When words are formed from verbs of the first conjugation, and receive the conjugational letter a, such a, when their origin is stated, is exhibited between parentheses; thus mac-tor, arc-tram, are said to spring from am(a)-o, ar(a) - o. But when the a is not employed, the ordinary form of the first person of the present tense of the verb is given; thus um-ar, ar-vus are repro sented as having their mm in cm-o, ar-o.
