My name is Randy Johnson. I was born in 1952 to Ann and Jerry Johnson in Wilson, NC, and grew up in a simple country family. When I was old enough, I worked on my grandparents' farm to earn money for school clothes. My double first cousin, Don Pittman, and I were the same age and grew up more like brothers. (Our parents were siblings on both sides.) Don learned to play guitar at the age of 10 and taught me as well. Along with another cousin, we formed a group called "The Tobacco Trail Trio," marking the beginning of our music journey. We played at various places until the harvesting season ended, and then we returned home. Sadly, Don passed away, but I kept playing and eventually formed a band in my late teens called "Randy Johnson and the Young Countrymen." We even recorded an album in the 70s and were contestants on the Nashville Network's show "You Can Be a Star." The years have gone by, and now in my 70s, I'm happily married to the love of my life, Linda. We have two wonderful children, Jennifer and Jamie, and two granddaughters who light up our lives. While I mostly sing in church these days, the memories of those early music days still hold a special place in my heart. I hope this book allows others to experience those moments too.
