Schenectady County Sits on the confluences of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers in the eastern portion of the state. Early settlers arrived in this area around 1661 with Dutch, Irish, Scottish, English and German Descendant. Many of these early settlers came from the Albany area in search of good farmland along the two rivers. This book is arranged in two parts. The first part, which details the Schenectady District's participation in the Revolutionary War. This section gives the names numerous residents while the footnotes list much biographical and historical information. The second part, which comprises more than half of the book, focuses on military service records. These persons are arranged in alphabetical order by surname. Data to be gleaned from this section includes such things as: date of enlistment; name of soldier's military unit; rank and details of military career; reason for discharge; birth or baptism date; death date; place of residence prior to military service and, post war career after service; place of burial; and whether soldier or widow received pensions.
