Excerpt from A Glossary of Botanic Terms, With Their Derivation and Accent The pleasant task now remains of acknowledging most heartily and gratefully the invaluable help I have derived from a host of friends during the progress of the work. Dr D. H. Soon, not only encouraged me to undertake the labour, but has always been ready to help with his advice; Mr A. Gepp, of the British Museum, has read the whole of both editions in proof and part in revise; he has spared neither time nor trouble to ascertain the correctness of the derivations and accents throughout, as well as in the special branch of descriptive botany which is under his charge; Professor Hanroo, d.sc., of Cork, improved many defini tions, and Professor H. H. W. Pearson helped in the compilation of the work in many ways. To these four gentlemen I am especially indebted for their kindly undertaking a troublesome task.
