When an oncologist tells Thomas Cromwell he has an incurable brain tumor he faces the problem of how to spend the few months left to him. Being an art history professor, he decides to complete his revealing Albrecht Dürer biography. He sets out for a tour around Europe to follow the painter’s footsteps as an artist. But a lapse at a road crossing leads him to Antwerp. During the short visit to this town he incidentally stumbles over one of the strangest discoveries in his career as an art historian. As he follows a lead to unveil the challenging mystery he becomes entangled in a web of love, crime and intrigue. His research brings into daring situations in the strangest places in France, Holland and Belgium. Women, mythical paintings, romance and secret plots threaten to deny him the peaceful ending of his life he’s yearning for. They also make him bitterly aware of all the wonderful things he missed in his dull eremite’s life.
Way too late. Only a miracle can save him.
