Excerpt from A Defence of a Treatise: Entitled the Gospel of Christ Worthy of All Acceptation; Containing a Reply to Mr. Button's Remarks, and the Observations of Philanthropos I will not pretend to be free from that spirit which easily besets a person engaged in controversy; but thus much I can say, I have endeavoured to r ad each of my opponents with a view to conviction; and it be comes me to achnowledge that I have not been altoge ther disappointed. There are some passages, which, if} had the piecejo write over again, I should ex punge, and others which I should alter: I should en deavour in some places to be more explicit, and in others more upon my guard against every appearance of unhind reflection.
