The first to be dis criminated was typhoid, by Louis of Paris (1787 His American pupils, W. W. Gerhard (1809-72 and Alfred Stille with C. W. Pennock (1799 all of Philadelphia, and George B. Shattuck, of Boston, proved that typhoid and typhus, theretofore loosely classed together, were independent diseases.
