A CANDID KID is a poignant coming of age tale filled with adventure, mystery and humor. Told from the perspective of young Baxter Brown, our story begins in 1955 as the Brown family moves from an apartment in the city to a large, ramshackle old house in the small town of Canterville. It isn't long before Baxter and his older brother begin to suspect that the old house, built years ago by the Commodore Fishbender, is holding many secrets. Legend has it that the eccentric sea captain left behind a fortune in gold, but in the 30 years since his death none has ever been found. As Baxter and his pals uncover clue after clue, it seems they may be close to finding the missing treasure. But they aren't the only ones obsessed with finding the gold, and it looks like their rival may stop at nothing to get it! Filled with unforgettable characters, it offers a glimpse of small town life when everyone knew their neighbors and having fun entailed getting grass stains on your clothes and mud on your shoes. Exciting, funny, heart-warming and nostalgic, it weaves a story you will love.
