In a neon-bright future Times Square, Robie, a mobile sales robot, turns vending into street theater, rolling through the crowd with the polish of a pitchman and the precision of a machine. He sells candy, drinks, comics, and cosmetics with cheerful banter, tailored routines, and flashy demonstrations, drawing cheers, curiosity, and even investment as he embodies a world where consumerism, advertising, and technology are all part of the entertainment. But beneath the satire and spectacle, disaster is waiting overhead. As Robie continues his relentless sales performance, a hidden object falls from the sky and a nuclear blast engulfs Manhattan, ending the lively show in an instant. Robie survives, but amid the wreckage he is disoriented, still trying to do his job as wounded and frightened people search for help. When a lost little girl asks for assistance, his programmed optimism and salesman's logic collide with the reality of catastrophe, creating a darkly ironic portrait of a machine built to serve a world that has suddenly fallen apart. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
