The setting is a Paris apartment at 54, rue Lepic, 1891. Johanna van Gogh-Bonger is the widow of Vincent van Gogh's brother, Theo. She blames Vincent, whose suicide just six months before her husband died, led to Theo's physical and mental breakdown. Left alone to raise an infant son, Johanna's only inheritance are hundreds of Vincent's paintings. But, advised on all sides that Vincent's art is worthless, Johanna is on the brink of selling his entire output to scrap dealers.
Can a visit from Vincent's ghost overcome Johanna's bitterness and ensure Vincent's legacy? Over the course of this powerful drama, a clash of wills between the unforgiving Johanna and the gruff and temperamental Vincent gradually evolves into a poignant love story as the socially inept Vincent is forced to woo his brother's widow. The play is a particular celebration of Johanna, whose lifelong dedication to Vincent's art and letters made him one of the world's most beloved artists.
