"1984" is a dystopian novel by George Orwell that depicts a totalitarian future where the state has complete control over all aspects of people's lives. The action takes place in the fictional country of Oceania, where the ruling party, led by Big Brother, uses brutal methods of suppressing freedom, constant surveillance and mind control of citizens. The main character, Winston Smith, works in the Ministry of Truth, where his duty is to distort historical facts in accordance with the party's propaganda. However, Winston begins to doubt the ideology and the order in which he lives, and tries to rebel against the system. The novel explores the themes of totalitarianism, propaganda, mind control, manipulation of history and language, and the loss of individual freedom. "1984" warns of the dangers of authoritarian regimes and shows how power can destroy not only freedom of action, but also the ability of people to think for themselves.
