A beautiful photo-and-text tribute to the unique creativity, athleticism, and—most of all—community that develops at the skatepark. Through life events from incarceration to parenthood, gender transition to cross-country moves, the skatepark remains central to people's relationships and sense of self. Based primarily at Portland's Pier Park, author Per Bjesse shares profiles of fellow skaters and community characters, paired with intimate, reflective, and dynamic photographs of skaters at rest and in action. Photography lovers, bowl lurkers, skaters of all abilities, and anyone who's ever skinned their palms will appreciate this powerful glimpse at the relationships built through shared commitment to this rebellious sport and outsider art form.
